Grandpa Mac's Biscuits Supreme

 

2 cups sifted flour

4 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar

1/2 cup butter

2/3 cup buttermilk

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

 

Sift together dry ingredients.  Cut in butter till mixture resembles coarse crumbs.  Add buttermilk all at once.  
Stir til the dough follows the fork around the bowl.  Turn out on lightly floured board. 
Knead 1/2 minute. Pat or roll. Cut into rounds using a cookie cutter or the mouth of a drinking glass. 
For fluffier, moister biscuits, stack one round atop another.

 

Bake at 450 for 10-12 minutes.
